Attending school regularly is vitally important for pupils – every day counts.
Without regular attendance, the best efforts of teachers and schools come to nothing. Pupils need to attend regularly to take full advantage of all the educational
opportunities open to them. If they do not, their education and career opportunities suffer.
It is the educational policy of this School and the Government that children should not be absent from school without good reason. This would usually mean through sickness or unavoidable emergency/family situations.
Notification of Pupil Absence
If your child is to be absent, please telephone the school office on 01895 632895, selecting Option 1 on the phone system; alternatively you can dial direct to the absence line on 01895 671 606. You will be able to leave a telephone message regarding your child's absence. This should be done by 9am on the first morning of absence and on days 3 and 5 if the absence continues.
Alternatively you can send an email to the school office via the Contact Us page of this website confirming your child's name, class and reason for absence. Sickness absence will be recorded as an authorised absence and will count against your child's attendance percentage at school.
Where no call has been placed to the office you should expect contact from our Attendance Officer to clarity the reason for the absence. Attendance is an essential part of a child's chance of academic success from a very early age. It is for this reason that we urge parents to make medical appointments outside of the school day as far as possible; we accept that in some instances this is unavoidable, but we do request evidence of the appointment.
Attendance Monitoring : Traffic Light System
Where a child's attendance falls below 96% the school takes active steps by contacting the family and working with them to ensure attendance is improved. Where these steps fail the school has no opportunity but to refer the case to the Participation Officer at the London Borough of Hillingdon for their support and intervention. Parents and Carers should be aware that Court Action may result and a penalty fine may be imposed.
Each half term we write to parents sending an Attendance Statement letting them know the attendance percentage that their child has attained using the traffic light system.

Family holidays should only be taken during the school closure periods.
Absence for religious observance is approved on the basis that only those days officially set apart for religious observance by the religious body can be granted as authorised absence. We are bound by the London Borough of Hillingdon guidelines and are only able to authorise a maximum of 2 days of absence for religious observance. Any other absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Please note that this absence still counts against your child's attendance percentage at school.
If you feel you have the need to make a request for absence from school in exceptional circumstances your application should be made in writing to the Headteacher. Please not that most exceptional leave is recorded as unauthorised, as per Local Authority guidelines. Decisions to authorise leave are taken at the discretion of the Headteacher who is under no obligation to grant leave unless he sees fit. Children are not able to 'earn' the right to exceptional leave through high attendance.
